Aguacate II
The Aguacate II Vehicular Bridge in the municipality of Joyabaj, Guatemala is a 60-ft clear span reinforced concrete girder bridge. This bridge crosses a river that regularly floods during the wet season of December-April and is not able to be crossed on foot or by vehicle. The river separates the three villages of Aguacate, San Luis, and Limares from Joyabaj. The residents of the three villages want the ability to travel to Joyabaj for the larger regional hospital and markets. This bridge will provide year-round reliable access to schools on either side of the river as well, and thereby ensures that rural communities will not be cut off from education, healthcare, and economic development during a large storm.
