Llano GRande

The Llano Grande Potable Water Project was developed to address the unreliable and insufficient water supply in the Llano Grande community of San Martín Jilotepeque, Chimaltenango. The existing 23-year-old system often left families without consistent access to water, forcing some households to haul it from neighbors. To solve this, the community purchased a spring in 2020 and proposed building a new system that includes a spring-fed pump station, a 50m³ ferrocement distribution tank, over 8 km of pipelines, 120 household taps, and chlorination. The project also considers solar power to offset pumping costs. With strong community support and financial contributions from residents, the municipality, and partner organizations, the initiative aims to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable potable water for all 341 residents.
